Inner and outer beauty- A devotional

Beauty is a huge trend in today’s society, and as a result we are always trying to improve something about ourselves, whether it be our waist, or our small eyes, or a pimple that has recently formed. And sometimes in this world- as we are always trying to become more perfect, more pretty and more loved, we forget.

We forget that Jesus loves us and that our bodies won’t last forever. We get lost in the makeup aisles or the gym and convince ourselves that we aren’t perfect.

And as God says many times in the bible, no, you’re not perfect. But because I died on the cross for you, because I took your sins and died a crimson death, your perfect in my eyes. Sure you do bad things and forget that I am your creator, but I love you. You don’t need to achieve perfection to be in a relationship with me. Try and be like me and shine my light.

I feel like this is strongly worded throughout the bible.

A verse to reflect on for the day is this:

1 Peter 3:3-4

“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewellery, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

What is this verse saying? Sometimes the bible can be difficult and vague, and everyone has a different perspective of what each bible verse means to them personally, but to me this is saying that beauty isn’t everything. I mean, I love my mascara and lip-gloss, but the thing we should focus most on is God and his grace. We have such a strong beauty within, but we often hide it under layers of foundation, and we forget the passion, the grace that lives inside all of us.

We should try and show God’s light with every passing day instead of showing the blueness of our eyes or perfectly brushed hair. And of course, not every girl is like this.

But my point is, we are beautiful in God’s eyes, and we should never, ever forget that.

A closing prayer for this week

Dear God,

I pray for these beautiful children of yours, that they will know that you are with them, that you love them and that you will never, ever leave them,

I pray for any girls with insecurities or who is trying so hard to be perfect, that they will know that they are so beautiful lord that they are made in your image and that they have such a strong inner beauty that just needs to shine, that they’ll stop trying to make a footprint on the sand, instead of making it on concrete.

Because with every passing wave lord, all of this earthly stuff will be forgotten and the water will wash away insecurities and that they’ll know that through you they will make a impact that will always stay, in your heart.

I pray for an awesome week back at school, that we will be blessed and that everyone will have a few positives each day to keep them smiling and rejoicing in you lord, that we won’t have to much homework, and that this blog entry will reach out to someone who really needs this.

And all the King’s daughters said,

AMEN.

Have a good week daughter of the king, and remember you are so cherished and loved by our Lord and Saviour.
